Age Requirement: 18+
This course is for performers, directors and creatives who are interested in learning about or working with Motion Capture technology.
No previous experience of working with MOCAP is necessary. This open-level course is best suited to students who have significant performance experience but are new to working with motion capture.

About the course
This course is an exciting opportunity for performers and creators working within the performance industry to familiarise themselves with the fast-growing motion capture sector.
In this highly practical one-day session, participants will work in LAMDA's brand-new, 30-camera MOCAP studio, and learn how to perform with this cutting-edge technology.
What will I learn?
- Get ‘suited up’ and learn how to work practically inside a motion capture vault.
- Understand motion capture terminology and the creative pipeline required for Motion Capture projects
- Participate in group activities geared towards emulating a small-scale real-world scenario.
- Receive an immersive introduction to the basics of character creation, idles and walk cycles.
Is this course for me?
This course is aimed at actors, directors and industry professionals looking to update their skillset and spend a day working with MOCAP technology.
No previous experience of working with Motion Capture is necessary, but to get the most out of this course, you will have significant performance or performance-adjacent experience.
About the tutor
This course will be taught by actor, voice actor, movement director, and immersive XR practitioner, Maggie Bain. Maggie holds nearly 20 years of expertise in physicality and collaborative storytelling across stage, screen, video games, and the immersive arts.
Key Information
Our Actor Explore courses are open-level and aimed at any actor interested in exploring a particular skill. Whether you’re a professional actor or you’re new to performing, our expert tutors will adapt notes and exercises to ensure that you are challenged and excited by the work. As much as possible, students will be paired with others of a similar experience level or age.
You must be 18 years old or above to participate in this course.
This course is open level, but will be most suited to participants who have significant performance experience.
You should have a level of English that is approximately IELTS 6.0. Although English language tests aren't mandatory, we recommend that if you are a non-native English speaker without a Level 6 IELTS, then you must have the equivalent English language experience.
