Shakespeare Masterclasses

Discover our Shakespeare Masterclass series

Each year at LAMDA, we begin our US Shakespeare Masterclass Tour, hosted by Rodney Cottier, LAMDA’s Associate Director and former Head of Drama School. We offer in-person (and online where necessary) masterclasses designed to inspire university and college students across the US.

We also host a select number of masterclasses here in London. If you are a group interested in coming to LAMDA for a masterclass, please contact us to enquire.

What to expect

The masterclass gives a taste of LAMDA's exhilarating training to students. With over 40 years experience as a stage director, teacher of stage combat, acting and text, Rodney Cottier leads an exciting, engaging and educational class.

The masterclasses are tailored to the level of the class, and are suitable for those with either tons of or no experience with Shakespeare!

His respect and passion for the text is truly contagious.

About the masterclasses

Delivered in 3-hour masterclasses, Rodney passionately explores Shakespeare’s First Folio starting with a short history of Shakespeare and The Globe Theatre, followed by getting students up on their feet to work some of the Bard's text.

How to book a masterclass

We tour the US on a four-yearly rotation by region. During each tour we endeavour to arrange community masterclasses, which are open to professional actors and theatre companies.

We also offer masterclasses coinciding with our Audition Tour in March each year, where we visit a number of cities across the North America. In 2025, we plan to visit various locations across North America.

Find out more about auditioning in the US for our Undergraduate & Postgraduate acting courses.

The students were discovering things about Shakespeare through these lectures and themselves they never thought of before.
