About Actor Refresh Summer
This course has no 'product' other than the vitally important task of reconnecting with the joy of acting. In the day-to-day hustle of being a jobbing actor it is so easy to lose sight of your love of acting, and this course seeks to redress this. Where many workshops aimed at professional actors are industry-focused, Summer Scene Study is a radical opportunity to simply act.
Meeting twice a week for six weeks, the course is split into two strands. The Wednesday evening session will be held by the same practitioner each week, who will guide you through the ‘scene study’ - working with a text(s) and collaboratively bringing it to life through practical exercises drawn from the work of Uta Hagen, Stanislavski, Chekhov, and Laban.
Whilst the Wednesday session is an opportunity to gradually build upon your work week by week, the Thursday session is a chance to try out new ideas and practices. Hosted by a different practitioner every week, Thursday’s class will introduce you to a different methodology or discipline, which can spark new approaches to your work, and foster a spirit of play and experimentation.
What will I learn?
- Revisit or discover methods of text analysis and character/world building drawn from Uta Hagen, Stanislavski, Chekhov, and Laban.
- Explore a range of new approaches to augment and revitalise your actor’s toolkit.
- Discover how to continually keep fun and enjoyment alive through collaboration, game-play and reflection.
