Alumni News: April edition

Latest releases

• Last month at the Vault Festival, Ben Garcia provided lighting design for Con-Version, which played on 14 – 19 March.
• In March, Claire Redcliffe and 2022 graduate Kathrine Payne starred in Hamlet (Reimagined For Young Audiences) at the National Theatre.
• On 24 and 25 March, Mackenzie Larsen and Carolyn Hartvigsen performed in murder mystery farce The Midnight Snack at the Drayton Arms Theatre in Kensington. 
• The Voice in My Ear, written by Claudine Toutoungi and starring Charlotte Riley and Amit Shah, was recently named as Drama of the Week on BBC Radio 4. Listen back on BBC Sounds.
• Succession season 4, starring Brian Cox, is now airing on HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic in the UK.
• Poppy Winter is starring in Sucker Punch at Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch until 15 April.
• Elliot Edusah stars in Django, now available to watch on Sky Atlantic in the UK. 
• Rebecca Frecknall’s A Streetcar Named Desire transfers to the West End from 20 March, playing at the Phoenix Theatre. The show stars Eduardo Ackerman.
• Joel Samuels has co-written Sugar Coat, now showing at Southwark Playhouse Borough until 22 April.
• Jason Riddington’s debut book, Life, Death, T’ai Chi and Me – My Brain Injury Journey, is published by Austin Macauley Publishers on 31 March.
• Lucy Havard and Conor Dumbrell’s show Insides is showing at the Pleasance Theatre from 3 – 8 April. 
• From 4 – 22 April, Bathsheba Piepe is starring in The Woman Who Turned Into A Tree at the Omnibus Theatre. Stephanie Siraut is Stage Manager on the show, and Amy Hill is the Lighting Designer.
• Stacy Keach returned to The Blacklist last month. The tenth season is now airing in the US and will arrive on UK screens soon.
• Rebecca Humphries stars in Blackout Songs at Hampstead Theatre from 8 April – 6 May.
• Ciana Howlin and Orla Scally are starring in STRIKE! at Southwark Playhouse Borough from 13 April – 6 May.
• Netflix series Obsession, starring Richard Armitage, is streaming from 13 April.
• The Good Person of Szechwan opens at Lyric Hammersmith on 15 April, directed by Anthony Lau with Alexandra Faye Braithwaite as Sound Designer. Ami Tredrea, Tim Samuels and Jon Chew are amongst the cast.
• William Robinson, Mercedes Assad and Matthew Bulgo star in the RSC’s production of Julius Caesar, playing in Stratford Upon Avon until 20 April and touring nationally until 20 June. 
• Medea, starring Ben Daniels, is playing at Soho Place until 22 April. 
• Peter Lossasso is appearing in the UK Tour of Royal Theatre Bath’s Mrs. Warren’s Profession until 15 April. 
• From 25 April – 13 May, Stiff & Kitsch are producing Supernova at the Omnibus Theatre. The show is written by and starring Rhiannon Neads and also stars Sam Swann.
• Sam Crerar, Lizzie Schenk and Isobel Thom (who completed the Foundation course and previously starred in the Globe's production of I, Joan) have joined the cast of the Globe Theatre’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, showing from 27 April – 12 August.
• The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry starring Jim Broadbent, will be released on 28 April.
   

Things to look forward to

• Iwan Rheon has been announced amongst the cast of Men Up, arriving on BBC later this year.
• Iwan Rheon has also joined the cast of upcoming Peacock drama, Those About To Die.
• Anna Maxwell Martin will star in upcoming ITV true crime drama, Delia Balmer.
• Shaun Mendum is lending his voice to visual novel Of Sense and Soul.
• Heyfever is playing at the Arcola Theatre from 8 – 13 May, followed by a run at Space45 at Edinburgh Fringe in August. The production features alumni Feride Morçay, Matthew Rainsberry, David Abécassis, Brandon Boruch, Anastasia Thiras, and Jahmiko Marshall (as Lighting Designer).
• David Oyelowo, Harriet Walter and 2021 graduate Sarah Farrell are amongst the cast of Apple TV+’s Silo, premiering on 5 May.
• This summer, Polly Findlay is directing Assassins at Chichester Festival Theatre from 3 – 24 June.
• 2022 graduate Anita Adam-Gabay has recently finished filming the Disney+/Hulu series, We Were The Lucky Ones, and has now started filming for an upcoming ITV miniseries.
• A second series of Vigil has been announced by the BBC, with Rose Leslie returning. Joining the cast are Amir El-Masry and Jonathan Ajayi.
• Mischief Theatre’s Peter Pan Goes Wrong is returning to the West End this winter, running at the Lyric Theatre from 23 November 2023 – 14 January 2024. It will also embark on a UK tour from September 2023.
• 2022 graduate Sam Howard-Sneyd has been announced in the cast of BBC drama Domino Day.

• Congratulations to our alumni nominated at the Olivier Awards 2023, including David Moorst who has been nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for To Kill a Mockingbird, Natasha Chivers who has been nominated for Best Lighting Design for lighting Prima Facie, and Rebecca Frecknall who has been nominated for Best Director for A Streetcar Named Desire.
• And congratulations to all our alumni involved in Olivier-nominated productions, including Hayley Bowman (as Assistant Stage Manager) on Tammy Faye, Tingying Dong (as Sound Designer) and Ami Tredrea who worked on The Crucible, Lizzie Schenk who starred in Good, Niamh Gaffney (as Associate Sound Designer) on Jerusalem, Esh Alladi who starred in The P Word, Tabitha Piggott (as Production Manager) and Shazia Nicholls who worked on Paradise Now!, Robert Perkins (as Stage Manager) on Standing At The Sky’s Edge, Harry Hadden-Paton who appeared in My Fair Lady, Rebecca Humphries who featured in Blackout Songs, and Tom Morton-Smith who adapted My Neighbour Totoro for the stage, which received nine nominations in total. 
• Congratulations to Tina Tieno (writer/performer of Sacrifice), Stiff & Kitsch (Supernova) and Aoife Kennan (writer/performer of Scratches), whose work has been nominated at the Vault Festival’s Festival Awards. And huge congratulations to all our alumni involved in nominated productions. 
• Scratches, written and performed by Aoife Kennan, has also been nominated at the Offies for Performance Piece. 
• 2022 graduate Abbey Gillett has been nominated for Lead Performance in a Play at the Offies, for starring in Stray Dogs at Theatre503.
• Abubakar Salim recently spoke to ‘Why Now Gaming’ about being both an actor and game developer, as the founder/CEO of Silver Rain Games.
• Julie Hesmondhalgh recently featured on BBC Radio 4 show The Poet Laureate Has Gone to His Shed. Listen back on BBC Sounds.
