Musical Theatre students shine at Edinburgh Fringe
Students from LAMDA's MA Musical Theatre course took to the stage at the world-renowned Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year, delivering a performance that was met with rave reviews. Their production of Stephen Sondheim's classic musical Into the Woods captivated audiences, establishing the group as rising stars.
The production, which ran throughout the festival, was praised for its creativity, energy and the exceptional talent of the young cast.
One audience member said, "What a fantastic production! Saw the show yesterday and can happily say LAMDA has created a fresh, modern take of this beloved musical. The cast tapped into the humanity of each character and moved beyond the traditional caricatures most other productions convey of the infamous fairytale characters."
The show had been in the works for months leading under the direction of Musical Theatre course leader Annabel Mutale Reed. For many of the performers, this was their first time at the festival. The students were fully dedicated, balancing their classes with rehearsals and an initial run in London before their Edinburgh Fringe transfer.
Student Hollie Avery, who starred as the Witch, said, "Performing at the Edinburgh Fringe is an experience like no other: the sheer number of shows and the variety therein makes for a melting pot of creativity and art.
It was an honour to be a part of that as the first cohort of MT students at LAMDA. It taught us some valuable lessons in longevity, artistry and teamwork. On top of this, to perform an acclaimed musical like Into the Woods on one of the best creative platforms was an experience I will cherish long after my time at LAMDA.
This cohort is full of bright, talented performers and to work alongside them is something I would do again in a heartbeat."
LAMDA will return to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2025.
