LAMDA Awarded Leverhulme Trust Grant
Following our funding application in June, LAMDA is delighted to announce that we have been awarded a generous grant of £409,500 from the Leverhulme Arts Trust to support our Scholarship Programme.
This funding will benefit students in three incoming cohorts of the BA in Professional Acting and BA in Production and Technical Arts, as well as two cohorts of the MFA in Professional Acting, covering the duration of their studies at LAMDA. Released in five tranches from 2025 to 2030, this grant reflects the Trust’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of arts professionals. LAMDA is proud to be one of eight arts academies in the UK awarded over £400,000 under the Trust’s new Art Scholarships for Undergraduates and Postgraduates scheme.
History of the Trust
Since its foundation in 1925, the Leverhulme Trust has provided grants and scholarships for research and education, funding research projects, fellowships, studentships, bursaries and prizes; it operates across all the academic disciplines, the intention being to support talented individuals as they realise their personal vision in research and professional training. Today, it is one of the largest all-subject providers of research funding in the UK, distributing approximately £120 million a year. What the Leverhulme Trust Does
The Leverhulme Trust awards grants for research projects, fellowships, international collaboration, and the fine and performing arts, with a focus on the UK’s world-class higher education sector. They prioritise original, outstanding work with cross-disciplinary significance or a willingness to take risks in advancing knowledge.
The Trust’s support for innovative research and scholarships fosters new ideas and delivers societal benefits. Over the past century, they have played a pivotal role in the UK’s research landscape, funding high-risk, fundamental work across disciplines where such support is increasingly rare.
How LAMDA will Benefit from These New Scholarships
The grant will support 24 students over five years from 2025 to 2030 across BA (Hons) Professional Acting, BA (Hons) Production & Technical Arts and MFA Professional Acting.
Elissa Gerrand, LAMDA's Director of Development, Said:
"We are deeply grateful to the Leverhulme Trust for their extraordinary support, which will have a transformative impact on LAMDA and our students. Their generous grant of £409,500 over five years will provide vital scholarships for talented individuals across our BA Acting, BA Production & Technical Arts, and MFA Professional Acting programs. By enabling these students to pursue their training without financial barriers, the Leverhulme Trust is empowering the next generation of performing arts practitioners to thrive. This investment underscores the Trust’s commitment to fostering excellence and access in the arts, and we are honoured to partner with them in this mission."
