LAMDA partners with Prime Theatre in Swindon
We are delighted to be working in partnership with Swindon based theatre company Prime Theatre, to provide free training and workshops for aspiring performers and technicians.
Elliot Howe, Access and Widening Participation Manager at LAMDA said, “At LAMDA, we believe financial circumstances should not be a barrier to accessing our training. We’re delighted to be working with Prime Theatre, and our other partners around the country to deliver free workshops and introduce young people to the huge variety of careers and transferrable skills the creative arts offer.”
In January, ten young people from Prime Theatre visited LAMDA along with our partners from around the UK for our first Pathways Open Day including; NYAT (Hull), Royal Exchange (Manchester), 20 Stories High (Liverpool), Open Door (East Midlands & London), Intermission (London) and NYT Playing Up (London). Participants took part in voice, movement, acting and singing workshops, giving them an insight into drama school training.
Georgia Scott, 17 who attended the workshop said “I’m glad I got to come here. I have a few auditions coming up, so it’s given me the confidence to be myself and go for it.”
Over the next six months, Prime Theatre members will be offered a series of workshops around both performance and technical theatre in Swindon led by LAMDA tutors and alumni. Prime Theatre will be working with secondary schools and colleges in Swindon to promote this opportunity to students who might be interested in seeking post 18+ drama school training.
Our partnership with Prime Theatre is part of LAMDA’s Pathways programme which utilises our reputation, expertise and facilities to remove the barriers that prevent hard-to-reach young people from accessing performance arts training, employment or activity. Applicants offered an audition or interview through one of our Pathways programmes will have all of their application fees waivered. This year we have offered over 100 fee waivers to people applying for our technical theatre and acting courses. Find out more about Pathways.
