FAQs

Monologues and Duologues for Young Actors and Monologues and Duologues for Teenage Actors are sister publications, containing an array of speeches and scenes to excite, challenge and inspire Learners taking LAMDA Exams in Acting.

These anthologies have been carefully curated to offer a broad range of material. They explore gender identity, race and heritage, and the lives of people with disabilities. They also examine history through the lens of contemporary writing, reflect on today’s society, and adventure into magical worlds.

In Monologues and Duologues for Young Actors, you will find a selection of pieces suitable for Learners entering LAMDA Graded Examinations in Performance: Acting from Entry Level to Grade 4. Featured are scenes from published plays and novels, as well as scenes written specifically for this anthology.

Featured writings include Malorie Blackman, Mike Bartlett, Chinonyerem Odimba and pieces written exclusively for the publication by LAMDA Examiners.

In Monologues and Duologues for Teenage Actors, you will find a range of scenes taken from published plays and novels, suitable for Learners to use during their LAMDA Graded Examinations in Performance: Acting from Grade 5 to Grade 8.

Featured writings include a foreword from LAMDA graduate and featured playwright Anna Jordan, and writings by Brian Friel, Sophie Wu, and In-Sook Chappell.

The texts included in the anthologies are optional pieces that can be used as the own choice selection for Learners entering their LAMDA Exams in Acting, but they aren’t compulsory to use.

They can act as a starting point to discovering new writers and have been carefully curated to offer Learners a broad range of material. These selections may also be useful for auditions and festivals, or however else you see fit - including in other aspects of teaching, such as warm-up exercises.

The aim in publishing these new anthologies is to include a fresh selection of pieces which feel more contemporary and broaden the choice of material for Learners in terms of theme, voice and content. These are the first own choice anthologies released by LAMDA Exams since 2016, when Monologues for Young Actors was published.

Split into pieces for under 12s (in Monologues and Duologues for Young Actors) and over 12s (in Monologues and Duologues for Teenage Actors), the new anthologies include material which reflects characters, content and themes appropriate for Learners of these ages to perform, with both solo and duologue pieces included to offer teachers a more adaptable selection.

The anthologies are expected to be dispatched on Wednesday 1 February 2023.
